God’s Word
“I was naked and you clothed me…” — Matthew 25:36
Sharing Joy
Picture… A woman with three children walks into Shalom Shop, purchases an empty paper grocery bag for five dollars and proceeds to fill it up with clothing for her children. Her teenage daughter walks out of our shop owning the same name brand pair of jeans and flip-flops that her more affluent friends have bought at “the Mall.” Her younger brother finds a Star Wars action figure and a tiny little sister cuddles a baby doll and clutches a few books. The mother slips a gently used shirt into the bag for herself and all leave smiling.
We volunteers share their joy.
What… Shalom Shop clothes your neighbors and gives generously to your local food pantry, churches and numerous other caring agencies. Shalom Shop gave $49,450 during 2006 and has no paid employees.
Why… Isanti county has a high percentage of families at the poverty level. Shalom Shop helps parents provide clothing for their children and suitable clothes for their jobs.
Lives Are Changed… The lives of the volunteers are enriched by service at Shalom. When a dejected and sometimes embarrassed young person comes to our store, we try to lighten their struggle to survive and make them feel welcome.
A mentally and physically challenged person walks three miles to spend hours browsing our book shelves. We help him fill his backpack with books. His mumbled “thank you” is the volunteer’s pay for the day.
Connect… Shalom Shop is operated by volunteers. Stop in and become acquainted with their mission or call Dorothy Johnson at 552-0931
Prayer… Bless Shalom Shop with volunteers who feel the call of Jesus. Amen.
